Spiritual Mind Treatment PDF Print E-mail
What is Spiritual Mind Treatment?

In its more simple meaning, treatment is the time, process and method necessary to the changing of our thought. Treatment is clearing the thought of negation, of doubt and fear, and causing it to perceive the ever-presence of God .

--Dr. Ernest Holmes

The Power of Prayer

If you're reading this, you are on a journey of spiritual evolution and awakening. You may be new to metaphysical principles or you might regard them as old friends. Whatever your experience with Science of Mind or New Thought, the principles found here remain timeless and changeless. These suggestions will help you make the most of them.

A spiritual mind treatment is simply affirmative prayer; that is, prayer offered with a sense of acceptance and gratitude. Rather than pleading for something from a distant god, affirmative prayer accepts the good desired as though it were already so. This is what the teacher Jesus of Nazareth meant when he suggested that we 'pray believing'.

Spiritual mind treatment is not directed at something outside of ourselves, but is an awakening of our innermost knowing that the Universe in which we live is lawful, loving, and intelligent. Ernest Holmes, the founder of Religious Science, used to begin his lessons with the statement, "There is a power for good in the Universe, greater than you are, available to everyone, and you can use it". Spiritual mind treatment is all about using this power to transform conditions, to awaken our spiritual awareness, and to create a wonderful life!

While there is no one correct way to treat, certain steps are generally followed. Ministers and accredited teachers are available in Religious Science centers and churches to teach the art and science of Spiritual Mind Treatment. Here's a brief overview of how it works:

  •
  • To begin with, we recognize that we live in an infinite spiritual universe, governed by intelligence. We contemplate the nature of Spirit as we understand it.

  •
  • We also unify ourselves with that spiritual reality. If it is infinite, then we are some part of that.

  •
  • At some point, we realize that the good that we seek, be it healing, peace of mind, or greater abundance, is already available to us. As the divine is omnipresent, there's nowhere else for it to be other than right here, right now! We accept that good in our own minds and our own hearts.

  •
  • We give thanks for the blessings of Spirit that are ours to celebrate. We give thanks because we believe we have already received.

  •
  • And we release the spiritual mind treatment, allowing the spiritual laws of this Universe to operate and bring about in our experience the good that we've claimed as ours. We also release anything in thought, word, or deed that may be impeding our good from appearing in form.

That's all there is to it! To learn more about doing affirmative prayer for yourself or others, why not consider enrolling in one of our classes? Ongoing courses are held at our WaterCourt location in Westlake Village. If you live out of the area, there are distance learning opportunities.
